thelostfactorAs today is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, as someone who comes from an Armenian family that was directly affected by this tragedy, I feel I should make something crystal clear:
If you are not Armenian and try to debate, justify, or deny the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915–1923, you are a terrible person.
Armenians do not want to hear debates about whether the Armenian Genocide (Medz Yeghern) "can be called a genocide." Armenians do not want outsiders—especially those who deny it—to dismiss their history as "propaganda" or to suggest these atrocities were justified. And most importantly, this is not the time to bring up Armenian politics as a "gotcha moment".
Today is the day for Armenians to mourn 1.5 million victims of Medz Yeghern, a genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire. Many countries still do not officially recognize it, while some (Turkey and Azerbaijan) continue to deny it.
If you feel the need to say something today, consider honoring the memory of those who were murdered, deported, starved, imprisoned, raped, and forcibly converted to Islam. Light a candle in their memory.
